Nau mai, haere mai, welcome to Tikorangi School's website

We are a wonderful little learning place with friendly kids, highly effective staff and a truly supportive community. Set in beautiful North Taranaki farmland, we are surrounded by mature bush and trees. We really enjoy using natures gifts to make learning more meaningful.

We Are Not Selling Orchids

Hi Tikorangi School community. Some freeloading criminals are door knocking in Waitara, selling Orchids (likely to be stolen), claiming they are fundraising for Tikorangi School. THIS IS 100% NOT TRUE. If you know anything about this activity please call the local police.

If you have access to other Waitara FB pages could you please copy and share this post on those.

With Sadness - Removal of a commemorative Kauri tree.

Several months ago, during the Jubilee, a local Tikorangi resident raised a concern about the largest of the Kauri at the front of the school. It was multi-trunked and was showing considerable signs of stress at the base of the tree...a large crack at the bottom of the largest trunk. The potential hazard the tree posed as a risk to children was reported to the BoT, who then sought professional opinions from arborists, after cyclone Gita. The crack had worsened during Gita. The tree needed substantial work and then extensive strapping to 100% secure it but this was not a guarantee that one or more of the trunks would not come down in severe weather. With the Board not satisfied that the tree posed no potential health and safety risk to the children, staff and parents of Tikorangi School the only decision was to remove the risk. With the tree now felled, the centre of the base of the tree is accessible and it is wet and quite rotten. It is with sadness that this has had to happen but be assured it is in the best interests of child safety.
Another Kauri tree will be planted in the bush area of school and our children will try to propagate the seeds from this tree to plant elsewhere.
The Tikorangi School BoT hopes our community understands the difficult decision that had to be made in this circumstance.
